The Tiittala Empire Manor, built in 1836, has a colorful history. This place, originally known as Sulkava's Hill, is said to have been named Tiittala already in the 16th century. During that time, the Tiittainen farming family resided on the estate.

The current main building was constructed by Major Reiher, who had served in the Finnish War. This was done after the previous main building, built in the late 1600s by Judge Brochius, had burned down in 1835. The Reiher-Lindfors family owned the manor until the beginning of the 20th century.

The merchant Hjalmar Bagge from Rantasalmi bought Tiittala manor in 1912 from businessmen Antti Kurenniemi and Esaias Pärnänen. Hjalmar's son, Toivo, took over as the master of the estate in 1915. Toivo and Hilja Maria Bagge honored the old name of the estate by changing their own surname to Tiittala in the 1920s. The later masters of the estate, Toivo's son Ukko, his wife Eeva-Liisa, and their sons Risto and Erkki, have proudly carried on the name.

Now Tiittala Manor is entering its third century under the ownership of new owners - in a new era, but still following old traditions. We hope that the house brings peace of mind and comfort to its visitors.
